How to Pack a Week of Outfits in One Carry-On (Without Wrinkles)
A step-by-step method to fit 7 days of clothes, shoes and toiletries into one carry-on bag, and keep your dresses and shirts smooth on arrival.
To pack a week in one carry-on, plan outfits that mix and match (the 5-4-3-2-1 rule), lay structured pieces like dresses and blazers flat on a hanger, roll soft basics, put shoes along the sides and keep liquids in one clear 3-1-1 bag. A bag that opens flat, like Voyagers™, makes the hanger step easy and keeps creases away.
Packing for seven days in one bag sounds impossible until you do it once. The secret is not a bigger bag. It is a plan, plus a bag that lets clothes lie flat instead of being squashed into a stack.
Here is the exact method our customers use, step by step.
- Tops5 (mix of tees and blouses)
- Bottoms4 (jeans, trousers, skirt, shorts)
- Dresses / blazers2 laid flat on a hanger
- Shoes2 pairs + the pair you wear
- Underwear & socks7 sets, rolled
- ToiletriesOne 3-1-1 liquids bag
- ExtrasSleepwear, swimsuit, scarf
- Bag usedVoyagers™, 20–35 L
Step 1: Plan outfits with the 5-4-3-2-1 rule
Before you touch the bag, lay everything out. The 5-4-3-2-1 rule is a simple way to cap it: 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 accessories, 2 pairs of shoes and 1 swimsuit or dress.
Pick one color story (for example neutrals plus one accent color) so every top works with every bottom. Seven days of outfits then come from nine pieces of clothing.
Step 2: Lay dresses, blazers and shirts flat first
Structured pieces wrinkle most when they are folded many times. So they go in first, flat, on a hanger.
With Voyagers™ you unzip the bag into one long panel (about 37" / 94 cm), hang your dress or blazer inside, and strap it down. When you fold the bag closed, the clothes get folded once, gently, instead of being creased into quarters.
Want the bag that opens flat? Voyagers™ unzips like a garment bag and zips into a carry-on.

T-shirts, leggings, pajamas and underwear do not mind being rolled. Rolling them tightly saves space and fills gaps.
Knits and jeans can be folded in half and laid on top of the flat layer. Fill the corners with socks and underwear.
Step 4: Put shoes along the sides
Shoes are the heaviest, most awkward items. Pack them heel to toe along the sides of the bag, soles facing out, ideally in a shoe bag or shower cap so they do not touch your clothes. Stuff socks inside them to use every inch.
Step 5: One clear liquids bag, kept on top
US TSA rules allow liquids, gels and creams in containers of 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less, all in one quart-size clear bag. Keep it in an outer or top pocket so you can pull it out at security without unpacking.
Solid toiletries (shampoo bars, solid perfume, stick sunscreen) do not count toward the liquids limit and save room.

Step 6: Zip, check, and lift
Zip the bag closed and check it is not bulging past its normal shape. A soft carry-on that is overstuffed can measure deeper than an airline allows.
Then lift it: if it feels heavy for long walks, roll it instead. Voyagers™ slides onto a suitcase handle with its back sleeve, or onto the foldable Voyagers™ Trolley.
“Works great to store about a week of clothes or two adults clothing for a long weekend trip. Photos show accurate product features. Quality stitching and material.”

“This is a very nice garment bag. I love the design and works very well. Was going to it for a 4 day cruise. Packed a week in advance, dresses and jeans were not wrinkled (pay attention to material of dress).”

Common packing mistakes
- Packing “just in case” outfits. If it does not match two other pieces, leave it.
- Folding dresses into small squares. Every fold is a crease. Lay them flat.
- Full-size toiletries. Decant into travel bottles or use solids.
- Overstuffing a soft bag. It may not fit the sizer. Leave a little room.

Frequently asked questions
Can you really pack a week in a carry-on?
Yes. With a mix-and-match capsule (5 tops, 4 bottoms, 2 dresses), two pairs of shoes and a 3-1-1 liquids bag, a 20–35 L carry-on like Voyagers™ holds a full week.
Is rolling or folding better to avoid wrinkles?
Roll soft basics like tees and leggings. Lay structured pieces like dresses, blazers and shirts flat on a hanger. Both beat folding into small squares.
What is the 5-4-3-2-1 packing rule?
5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 accessories, 2 pairs of shoes and 1 swimsuit or dress. It keeps a week of outfits to a carry-on.
How do I pack a dress in a carry-on without wrinkles?
Hang it on a hanger, lay it flat in a bag that opens like a garment bag, and fold the bag once. Hang it up as soon as you arrive.
How many shoes can fit in a carry-on?
Usually two pairs plus the pair you wear. Pack them along the sides, heel to toe, in a shoe bag.
What size is Voyagers™?
20.5" × 9.8" × 12.6" (52 × 25 × 32 cm), 20–35 L, and 2.1 lb (0.96 kg) empty.
